We concluded the Transcriptomics! workshop, which was awesome as always. The workshop was attended by 60 participants from all Israeli universities, including mainly Ph.D. students, and also some M.Sc. students, postdocs, and experienced researchers.
This was the 10th Haifa Winter Workshop in Bioinformatics. In these advanced bioinformatics workshops we dive into the details of the methodologies for omics analysis. This is the third time we do Transcriptomics! because RNAseq is the most popular application of the many omics approaches (I wonder why…) We covered standard differential expression analysis using bulk RNA sequencing, as well as single cell sequencing, and metatranscriptomics. The teaching team did a great job with the lectures and tutorials: Daniel Sher, Martin Mikl, Maya Lalzar, Eyal Privman, Kim Beirak, and Tzipi Peretz.
We also had an amazing line up of guest lecturers:
Amit Zeisel (Technion) told us about how the single cell sequencing revolution revealed the type taxonomy of the mammalian brain. Dan Bar Yaacov (Ben Gurion) spoke about RNA editing in bacteria. Schraga Schwartz (Weizmann) provided insights into the analysis of RNA modifications. Tamir Tuller (Tel Aviv) dove deep into the mechanisms of gene expression (and said AI is virtually all bull). And Assaf Vardi (Weizmann) amazed us with stories on algal ocean blooms and their demise by giant virus infection gleaned through the single cell prisem. Fascinating and highly valuable insights on both methodology and biology!
